The United States' 250th anniversary of independence, also known as the Semiquincentennial or "America250," will occurred on July 4, 2026. This will mark 250 years since the signing and adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Various organizations and government bodies began planning commemorative events and initiatives well in advance. The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission was established in 2016 to coordinate national celebrations and educational programs.

America250, the official nonprofit partner, is working to engage all Americans in the celebrations. The National Park Service is developing special programs at historical sites across the country. In addition, special commemorative coins and stamps are being designed by the U.S. Mint and Postal Service.

America's 250th anniversary was marked by simultaneous events across all 50 states, with particular focus on historic sites like Philadelphia's Independence Hall, the birthplace of America.

President Trump rolled out his plan for the celebration of 250 years of American Independence at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The Trump Administration will work with America’s 50 governors to create the “Great American State Fair” in Iowa, host major sporting events with American high school athletes, and sign an executive order to construct a National Garden of American Heroes.

Here is how previous milestone anniversaries of American independence were celebrated: The 1876 Centennial was a landmark celebration featuring The Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia - America's first World's Fair and the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty's torch and arm (the full statue wasn't completed until 1886.

The 1976 Bicentennial was particularly memorable when tall ships from around the world sailed to New York Harbor, The National Air and Space Museum opened in Washington, DC and special quarters, half-dollars, and other commemorative coins were minted.

Iowa was at the center of America's 250th birthday celebration that President Trump said will be scheduled from Memorial Day 2025 to July 4, 2026. It hosted major sporting contests for high school athletes to allow young Americans from every state to show off the best of American skill, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit.
